Stylish Storage

January 19, 2014 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but this time of year always puts me in the mood to organize.
Plus it gives me an excuse to buy some new Stylish Storage containers!!!
Here are a few that I am currently liking
This Basket made out of Water Hyacinth & Seagrass is available at Target
I love the pattern and the dark blue color of the thread.
Another great find at Target is this cool Geometric jewelry box.
It would look great on a bathroom counter or vanity
This classic Black and white striped bin is also from Target.
It would be really cute in a kids room as a laundry basket or for toy storage.
One of my biggest causes of clutter is books and magazines.
These woven felt baskets from West Elm are sturdy and have nice large handles that make it easy to carry reading materials from place to place.
If you are looking for a place to store paper or files, a vintage bread carrier tray is a great option.
I currently have one for sale in my space Tusk Home located in Midtowne Antique Mall.

Tusk Home
Another idea for storage is old book spines glued to a box. I especially love the unique vintage ones here.
When the box sits on a shelf, it looks like a bunch of your favorite books all lined up, but in fact, it’s secret storage. Stylish storage for your cd’s, dvd’s, magazines, papers, and other much-loved clutter.
Designrulz
A Fabric Storage Bin is perfect for storing just that, Fabric… or other things!
Etsy
An ottoman or a bench is a great place to get extra storage and seating!
This one is a custom piece from Ballard Designs we ordered for a design job I did.
Happy Storing

Happy New Year

January 6, 2014 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

Yes I know, I am a few days behind most of the New Years Posts (see below perfectionist-procrastinator).   I have been enjoying my time being a full time Wife and Mom (and Couch potato)!
Don’t Judge! πŸ™‚

Of course I have been scouring books, blogs and pinterest in my abundance of spare time.
And unlike most wives/moms home for 2 weeks-
doing VERY little Cooking or cleaning (again see below perfectionist-procrastinator) b/c I’m just not very good at it!
Again…No Judging! πŸ™‚

I’ve been reminiscing on 2013 and have come to the conclusion that though I don’t always feel like I have it all together, I have (by the Grace of God) managed to keep my life somewhat balanced. as a
I think it might be because I am sure to fit in some court time- probably more than I should!
Balance is something that a Libra Cusp person is cursed with.
“Those born of this cusp strive to maintain a peaceful balance in their lives.”

And that is a curse b/c we know is not actually possible.
 Keeping Balance is never peaceful.

It’s running frantically here and there
trying to do so many things- simultaneously.
Never quite seeming to be satisfied with the never perfect outcome.

In a typical week- one where the kids are in school til 2:30 every day I do actually get a lot accomplished. There are always more things to do, but in all seriousness,
 It’s NEVER all Done!
Right???

And Man do I have a lot of things I would like to accomplish in my Business and Personally,
that haven’t actually made it on the to do list…Yet

Which leads me to my next personality trait. I am also a perfectionist- procrastinator, so If I can’t do it the way I see (perfectly) fit, then I typically procrastinate.  Which then gets me in a bind, because I run out of time and it’s still not perfect.  AHHHHHHH
Lose~Lose

So that leads me to one of my Goals for this year

(Ha Ha)
Because

AND

So to all of the other Balance Striving Perfectionist Procrastinators out there

The Christmas Wreath

December 26, 2013 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

Since the classical use and symbolism of wreaths,
the meaning and representation has taken on differing views.
via
The Christmas wreath has come to convey its own set of meanings in modern times.
via
via
It’s circular shape represents eternity since it is without beginning or end.
When Christmas wreaths are decorated with evergreen leaves
they symbolize everlasting life and God’s everlasting love.
via
via
The Christmas wreath has become a sign of welcoming and acknowledges holiday cheer for this season
that emphasizes generosity, giving, and the gathering of loved ones.
via
Wreaths communicate a sense of joy and a desire for peace. The wreath on the door brings a warmth to our hearts as we stop to reflect upon the true meaning of this very special day.
via
 via
via
Whether the wreath is large or small, lushly green or spare, there is nearly always a splendid bow to wrap up all the many meanings and messages of Christmas.

I’m dreaming of a Vintage Christmas

December 14, 2013 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

I Love all the colors that were used back in the day in Vintage Christmas decor.
Themes were almost nonexistent and all the decorations would mix and match with most others.
Which meant adding to the decor each season was easy!  And Easy is Good!
Via

Tinsel Wreaths and Trees were very big and have become readily available again
(both new and vintage) in the last few years.
Via

Via
I especially love the colors and designs of Vintage Ornaments.
I  pick up a few each year to add to my collection.
They can usually be purchased at estate sales, antique stores and online via Etsy and other sites.
 Via
Via
These Stockings from Anthropologie blend perfectly with the vintage trees and Santa on this mantle
Via
Bottle brush trees are a big hit again and work in most any style of decorating.
 Via
Via
And of course the Greeting Cards were all one of a Kind!

Get Real Estate: Simple Fall Fixups

November 14, 2013 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

Fall is the perfect time to make some simple changes to your home.

As Always, clutter seems to accumulate with the change of a season. Since the weather is really just now starting to get cooler, you probably still have remnants of summer hanging around. Flips flops of various sizes and pool toys are most likely still at arms length reach near the door.

via Costal Living

Fall is one of the 2 or 3 times a year I make the trip up to my Attic!
So why not, go ahead and make the most of it!
It’s also a good time to take a quick inventory of my Christmas decorations that I will soon be hauling down.

Via Flicker

After you get the clutter out of the way,or simultaneously if you like to have a few projects going at once like me, do a Deep Clean. You might want to hire some help if the thought of that scares you!  Since you will most likely be indoors more in the months ahead, a clean house will allow for more relaxation!

Fall is also a great time to layer fabrics for warmth and charm.
Get out the blankets you have had stored away or buy a few to keep near by for those chilly evenings.
I love the idea of using an old ladder to hold them when not in use.

via Flicker

Since the leaves seem to be falling as quickly as you can say FALL, Yard Clean up is a must!

I do think it’s a good idea to stay up on it and not let it get too out of control.  Yikes!!!
It’s great exercise too!

While you are out enjoying this beautiful season, pick up seed pods, pine cones, and acorns and start a nature jar to display and keep as a memento of your year.  It’s also a great way to add color to your space without having to spend $$$.

Via A cultivated nest

Add Succulents to your decor. These are petite, indoor plants add a little color and life to a room. Succulents are easy to care for and can be used all year around. I love how she has incorporated the vintage toolbox, what a great idea!

Via Alanajonesmann

Since fall seems to be over almost as soon as it begins,
I keep a minimalist approach while decorating for this season.
I would rather be out enjoying the weather with the kids anyway!
A few pumpkins and a container of mums on the porch and I’m Good To Go…
Via Centsational girl

Hope you are enjoying this most wonderful Season! I am!!!

Cause this is Country Music…and we do!

Get Real Estate: Small Space Solutions

October 10, 2013 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

Styling a small space can be a challenge. Especially when your house is on the market.
Try just one or all of these tips to help keep your space open and airy, no matter how big or small it may be.

1- White Walls and Bare Floors

 Think Clean, Neat, Simple
Keeping floors bare and walls white,or a similar color as the trim,
keeps the eye moving and helps to anchor a small space.
Via Google Image
A clean palate allows you to add style with:

2-Pops of color

With pops of color in the decor- Pillows, Art, Rugs, etc…
you can be free to change your favorite colors on a regular basis.

3-Group small items

Group smaller items together so they appear as one larger unit.
This makes more of an impact than many items scattered throughout a space.
I would rather see 2 or 3 completed areas than a few items in each room that do not have a cohesive look.
Via Paper Blog

4- Furniture with legs

Allows the eye to keep moving and makes a space feel much more open and light.

Via A Creative Day

5- Glass/Acrylic/Mirrored Furniture-

You don’t want too much of this, but adding a few translucent pieces really helps make a space feel bigger.

Via Homedit

6- Use your walls
Using vertical space moves your eye up and around the room. A couple of simple ways to get this effect is by installing window treatments at the ceiling height and stacking artwork.

Via Firmdale Hotels

7-Texture,Texture,Texture

Mix up all types of textures, from fabrics to wall and floor treatments. When additional textures and patterns are brought in, a rooms gains depth and dimension.

Via Apartment Therapy

I have lots of other tips to help maximize your space. Let me know if you would like a consultation!

Get Real…Estate. Where Art Thou

Choosing Art can be an Art in it’s self!
Via Bing Images
I am sure you have all heard the Cliche, Art is a Personal choice, Right?
Hmmm… That leads me to believe that maybe home design is too, since I believe design to be an art.
But wait, don’t most clients hire a designer so they can help them Choose???
Choose what? Colors? Furniture layouts? Rugs? Accessories?ART???
I encourage investing in art that you LOVE, whether purchased at the latest local auction or brought in by your designer.
via Bing Images
I appreciate Fine Art and enjoy assisting clients make a choice on what to purchase
and where it should hang in their spaces.
I am not biased ,by any means, on style type, but I do Push ORIGINAL Art.
And if you know me…I Am NOT pushy. Well at least not as a Designer! πŸ™‚
Below are some of the Local (Arkansas) Original pieces that I am inspired by today.
Most or similar pieces can be purchased at the link below each pic.
I love this Abstract on canvas by Nicole Sample. It would look great in a frame or hanging as is.
 Via Stephano studios

I love how Raku bowls look on a lateral surface or Hanging Vertically, just about anywhere.
(These Even Coordinate the the Abstract above!)
Horsehair Bowls by Kelly Edwards

This modern painting is done by a friend of mine, Morgan Coven.
I love the colors and the panoramic shape of this one.

Who doesn’t need a Cute Rooster hanging in their Kitchen?
Though, I’m not sure if artist, Matt Coburn, would like me to call it Cute! πŸ™‚
Visit the the Art Group Gallery in Maumelle to see more.
Via Americana Originals
Farm Animals seem to be quite the Rage!
This Cow, by Holly Tilley (also at The Art Group), actually just got a new home…
My Kitchen!!!  I was scouting for a Client when I came across this little guy.
Love it.
via The Art Group Maumelle
This Cityscape of Little Rock by Artist Tracee Gentry Mathews can be the inspiration for any space!
via Art by Tracee

If you prefer softer colors, this landscape with water by Sandy Hubler, might be the perfect piece for you!
Via Sandy Hubler Fine Art
Sometimes choosing the Art is only half the battle.
Finding it a Home- inside of your home- can be quite a challenge too.
Especially if your house is on the market.
Since Art is Personal, it can be a little distracting to future Buyers.
Via Bing Images
A few steps to take when Styling to Sell with Art
(and everyday too)
Be thoughtful of Scale~ Don’t display the incorrect size for the space.
&
Don’t over crowd a room with too much art.
This is VERY Distracting and makes rooms feel much smaller than they really are.
Try to choose one focal point in each space, then coordinate with smaller or less dominating pieces.
Finally
If you need to store your fine Art,  It’s best to keep it in a temperature controlled storage area.
Never keep it in a damp basement or hot attic.
I would love to help, if you need other tips on where to purchase or how to hang art!
Keep it Real (original)!

Raise the Bar~Cart

August 27, 2013 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

This is really Sad…I actually wrote/typed this blog post in the car on August 11th(on the way out of town for vacation) and am just now having the time to publish it on my blog. It was posted on the At Home in Arkansas blog 2 weeks ago. So, if that doesn’t give you an idea of just how crazy my life is right now, then, I am not sure you will ever know. Blogging/Writing is one of my FAVORITE things to do and I am struggling to fit that in my schedule. Wait I don’t have a schedule…Maybe that is the problem. Ha…so I guess it’s time for a Priority overhaul. Not sure that is the correct term, but you know what I mean.

It is appropriate that this post is about Bar Carts, considering I could really use a DRINK Right Now- Yes I know it’s 8:30 a.m.!!!
Here’s to the CRAZINESS of Life!

One of the latest trends in home styling is the Bar Cart.
They are available in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes. They can be used for a variety of purposes even if Just for decoration, that’s it and that’s all!

When styling a room, it’ always great to have an interesting focal point.
A neatly set Bar Cart is a super simple way to do just that!

Love this black (chalkboard) wall as the back drop for this simple cart and stunning abstract painting.
The art could easily be removed and a note or grocery list could be displayed here for a fun change!

A Bar Cart can be used to display your favorite glassware and accessories.
And if your house in on the market, a great place to leave Fresh Flowers and a few cold water bottles, in an ice bucket ,with a note to potential buyers to ENJOY!!!

I Love it when we’re Cruisin Together

August 4, 2013 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

The last time I went on a cruise ship was a month after my engagement! I remember asking Danny if “I could wear my Ring on the Cruise!” Ha… His reply was “You can where it everywhere!”  πŸ™‚
Maybe it was because of all the stories I had heard…Like the one when my mom had her airline tickets lifted from her cabin by the HOUSE KEEPING STAFF!  What?!?
That was before all the identification you now need to travel, was required.
Like Picture ID, Blood Type, First Born… And Second in our Case.
Yes you read correctly…9 years after that trip (being newly engaged),
we are to set sail once again, with both of the Minis (AKA children)
And to think I was worried about wearing my ring!!!
Via Luxurytravel.org
BUT…
I would happily trade in all my adult vacations to watch Ariel on the big screen, at the pool while sipping on Shirley Temples. Who wouldn’t, right???
If only I had remembered to purchase that Disney Classic when it was “out of the Vault” πŸ˜‰
In addition to all of the Family Bonding on the trip (we can’t be online much),
I am hoping to get a little inspiration, while we are there, to bring back for my design jobs.
So ,as usual, I will give you some Splendid Design Eye Candy for your blogger enjoyment.
Talk about Inspiration~ Nice Suite.
The only thing I would be inspired to do here is NOT LEAVE!
Since room service is usually included-  I wouldn’t really have to.
Via Google
BUT…
It’s probably a good thing our Suite won’t be quite as “Decked Out” as the one above.
I will need to get out and take note of all the other places and spaces on the boat.
I am especially inspired by all these details here.
Love the Tufted Bar and how the designer incorporated the round/circle theme throughout the space.
Via Google
Speaking of Bars…
I LOVE this Bar, though it’s doubtful I will spend much time Here on this trip!
Via Google

My Bar experience will mostly likely look more like this!

Via Carnival.com
Though not my first idea of FUN, the kids will be thrilled!!!
Preston just said, I can’t wait to have one of those
 “Bigger than Me Lollipops”
I wonder if those self serve/measure candy jars make anyone Else’s Anxiety Peak.
I mean I seriously doubt my kids are the only ones that stick their grubby little digits down in the jars immediately upon entrance to the store EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!
Go Ahead Kids (and Hubby) Enjoy!  I’ll save my calories for the other Bar, where the lids stay nice and tight, until I open them!
I guess the cruise lines bank on families- It seems they think of everything kid friendly…
Like a Lego Model of a Cruise Ship
Via Carnival.com
And Water Slides
I love a good water slide, but the pool deck pictured here is waaay more my speed!
Via Seabourn Cruises
In honor of the upcoming start of school, we may need to spend a little time in the Library.
I can just see us now, sitting quietly in these crisp chairs as we all flip through our carefully selected books.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Via Celebrity Cruise line
Of all the spaces on a Cruise Boat, I think the Dining rooms are the most memorable!
Via Google
Even from the early days, much detail was put into the design and aesthetics of these gathering places.
via cruiselinehistory.com
I could seriously go on and on, but I will leave some for the Imagination!
Bon Voyage
