Merry Making

December 24, 2012 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

I can’t believe it’s been over 2 months since my last post!  I have been Busy, Busy, Busy.  I can see now why some people pay to have their blog written! With a (closing past due) Real Estate transaction , a few small design jobs and 2 kids with school parties- plus 3 weeks worth of Client’s Christmas Decorating and our house too, there is just not much time for Blogging.

It’s Christmas Eve, Eve and we only have 2 presents under the tree!!!!!  Can you say, PANIC??

I actually love giving gifts, but like most everyone else I know, my family already has everything plus more than we need or even want, for that matter.  I have been on Pinterest looking for some home made gifts that would be fun to do with the kids.  It’s really not about saving $$$, but more about it being personalized! Since it seems, for me to get the unique style I want, it might actually cost more than I would spend on something from the store! 🙂

So I went shopping last night to gather up all of my supplies for our homemade gifts.  I have decided that I will make my infamous Chocolate Chip Cookies (going to make them bars) and the Best Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake EVER!  I also bought every thing to make Strawberry Preserves… well everything, but the Strawberries!  They only had 1 container left and they didn’t look good.  So I’ll do those another time.  I also got the fixins for brown sugar scrub for the girls in my family! Aren’t ya’ll lucky!    Here are some images I took from Pinterest.  I’m hoping mine turn out this lovely!

This is what the cookie bars will look like, Hopefully! 🙂
I am excited to make this.. it will probably be a New Years Treat!
Here is the Sugar Scrub!!!!

Pretzel treats- with Hershey Kisses and M&M’s-  I forgot to get stuff for these.  Oops!

Aren’t the tags cute?  I know Addi will have fun helping me. She loves anything that involves glue and glitter!
I actually pinned these a while back in hopes that I might make them one day.  We shall see.

This Hot Cocoa is a perfect gift for kids to give to friends or teachers

Some Precious Labels you can print for your homemade gifts

I better get to work… it’s Christmas Eve and we have lots to do!

Happy Making and Merry Christmas!

Just another…Manic Monday (Whoa Whoa)

October 15, 2012 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

It’s only 8:26 on Monday Morning and I’m already exhausted. Ha! Like most moms out there, I feel the mania start to set in about 10:30 p.m. Sunday evening.  Just thinking of the week ahead, I start to feel a little overwhelmed.  Thankfully there are lots of handy items available to help keep the crazies at bay.  Here are some of my favorite necessities that I am thankful for every day.  I mean, how did we ever get by without these smart solutions?!!

Of Course my iPhone (which is typically set for about 5:18 every morning like in this pic)
Though it’s been closer to 6:00 when I get up Lately.
My iPhone is probably a tie with our Bunn Coffee Maker- That always has my favorite, Community Coffee, ready to go within 1 Minute.
My Laptop –  to me it’s much better than the iPad.  Many would argue that.
I guess I’m just an Old Fashioned Techie!
BASKETS, BASKETS, BASKETS
You can NEVER have enough. We have them everywhere and of all types.
They hold, Toys, Tools, Clothes, Mail, Books, DVD’s, Shoes…pretty much all the everyday stuff you have- that doesn’t always look that pretty.
As much as I love all my Technology, a Good Ole Notebook and Pen is what I end up using most of the time to help me keep up with all of my thoughts, ideas and reminders.
This is an idea that I have yet to incorporate into our daily lives.  A jar of small bills and change- for last minute field trip money and mostly those Friday Yard Sales- that I NEVER seem to have CA$H for. Most won’t take a check- so this saves you from having to run to the ATM when all you need is a few dollars.
Bowls, like Baskets, are a Hot Commodity in our household.  I have them on counters, shelves and  in drawers in every room.  They are perfect for jewelry, legos and loose change. I even have a dedicated bowl, with a lid, for Box Tops we collect for Preston’s school.
But Mostly
I Try to
In Spite of all the running around and scheduling I seem to do~
Remembering this keeps me going through the day!
HAPPY MONDAY!!!!

“Milk your Money” Monday

September 11, 2012 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

To me, one of the most exciting moments is finding that really Great Deal on that really Great Item.  It’s like a game- a challenge.  I find it very satisfying to uncover that jewel that was otherwise overlooked or non discovered by others…  Don’t get me wrong, I do still get chills when I walk into the Louis Vuitton or Gucci store… The way I look at it is the more Frugal I can be most of the time- then the more Frivolous I can be some of the time!

With the current economical status, it seems Flea Markets and Estate Sales are becoming more popular. This makes the inventory better. Of course more shoppers make it a little tougher to find that perfect, unique piece that I didn’t even know I needed- until of course I find it!

Finding all theses good deals is a win~win!  I get cool stuff and get to keep more of our cool cash~ hence the title “Milk your Money”

I am very open minded in my styling and try to incorporate unique pieces in every project.  I have found that looking to resale brings a little nostalgia and whim to every space.

Keep posted to see some of my Finds and  for lots of great ideas on decorating with Vintage Pieces.
Here are a few pics to inspire your challenge!

Vintage Boxes are always a fun find~ they are perfect for bookshelves and desks
Mason Jars- especially ones with lids. You can always stop by our booth “Linger” at Midtowne Antique Mall to search for these- Hurry, They move quickly!!!
My Latest Steal! A vintage love seat. I’ll probably keep this one- either for my office or as a dining bench on one side of our table. I love the Ruching on the arms.
I love this pic from the Magazine Flea Market Style~ It’s so unique and fresh- it reminds me of Anthropologie- my Fave store!

Antique Skeleton Keys are all the Rage!  I love finding these. Such a Mystery as to what they once opened.
Large vintage bottles are always a great snag~ they work with all design styles.
 What are your favorite finds?

Learning to Let go of control and let God work out the details sounds so easy.  I am a person that likes to be in control and plans for the outcome.  The problem with that is, destiny usually is a better outcome than I could have ever planned.

As I think back to early summer~ right after I posted the news of listing our house for sale~  I remember the lack of control I had and the uneasy feeling it gave me.

We were sitting in the Kitchen of the River house and I was upset because the house I thought we were getting (the one I wrote about being “The One”) was probably not going to be ours.  Ask my family, I was devastated- to say the least.  I said out loud how hard it was in moments like these to just – let God take control.  At that moment Something Hit Me.  I thought- that’s what I am going to do.  I decided not to be upset if it didn’t work out and just go with it.  (VERY HARD FOR ME)

Let me back up a little.  The night before this, we had accepted an offer on our home -only 9 days after the sign went up.  We had 3 weeks to pack everything, do repairs and close-by July 10th-  this is summer time people- and right after a major Holiday- oh yea, we were leaving for vacation the 13th.  Which is cutting it close.  Not only was this happening at a Race Truck Speed. (Only Danny and the kids know that term), I was NOT in Control.  Something I am just not that great with.  (Again- Danny and the Family know that all too well).  We were not working out our deal with the OTHER house~ something was just not right and poor Danny was getting the brunt of it.  I tend to let my emotions out on the ones I love most- hoping and praying that they will just take it.

So 2 days went by and still nothing working in our direction of getting a home to move into.  That’s when Danny started looking online at homes in our area.  I didn’t need to do that since that is my job anyway and I am ALWAYS looking.  He said, you know these interest rates are pretty low right now and I am thinking maybe we can increase our price range slightly.  WHAT?????  I never thought of that- REALLY?????
OK~  this is sounding good- tell me more…  So I start scouring the internet too 🙂  Even though I already knew what was out there-  I just didn’t think for me.  So we Looked and Looked and Looked online.  We were ready to see some in person.

On Sunday ~ Yes Open House Day we packed up the kids and bottled up our excitement and started looking.  Of course these houses are all in like a 1.5 mile radius from our current home because, I forgot to mention, we had to stay in the same school district.  Of course, I had it all mapped out. We had 3 scheduled appointments- including one directly next door to the home we thought we wanted. Long story- but it wasn’t even listed yet.   If we could quickly get through those, we were going to sneak in one at 3:45- just before the open house ended.  By 5:00 pm that day, Danny and I had both decided we were not going to buy that house we thought we wanted.  It was a very freeing, yet out of control feeling.  Believe it or not, I was EXCITED!

So the next day, we ran numbers, researched our options called listing agents and Decided on THE HOUSE.  It was perfectly imperfect- just like us!  It had been on the market for 14 months and NO offers.  This is sounding good.  I never once thought what happened, why hasn’t it sold?

I knew at that moment-  this had all been planned – sometimes these plans just take awhile.

So we made an offer- they countered- we made another offer-  and Bam- Accepted.  This is just all working out better than imagined-  the only thing- we needed a little more money upfront.  I won’t go into numbers, but what we had saved in addition to the equity from our current home was EXACTLY what we needed.  Things like this are what having faith is all about.  Knowing that whatever happens, we are going to be ok.

We knew that there was no way we could get in the house in 3 weeks- with the way the mortgage industry is going right now.  With all the Refi’s and purchases our loan officer told us 30 days was the absolute minimum-  it was more like 50 days, but who’s counting?  So if your math is good (unlike mine)  you might see a gap in there-  yes- a 5 week Gap of homelessness-  well actually house paymentless which is really not that bad.

So we started packing and repairing our home-   I won’t go into detail- but packing all of our stuff into 3 pods with a little help from our friends and still taking a full sized U Haul load to my moms is not easy.  Let me just say- the cost of hiring movers might be the most valuable thing you could ever pay for. The day we closed and moved out of our house was THE most stressful day I can remember ever having. Thanks to all that helped- while we frantically packed.

But we had vacation to look forward to!!!  And a vacation it was.  I tried to just relax and not think about the huge Mess we had just dropped off back at my mom’s house- luckily they were with us and never really saw how bad it was.  My absolute wonderful Aunt Jan- took all of our things up to our temporary apartment- the game room at mom’s- while we were at the beach.  She also kept our dogs for us- what a gem.

So after our much needed vacation- we stayed at mom’s-  which was actually more like a Hotel- with a laundry service, restaurant and pool.  It was only a short time, but I could have stayed much longer 🙂  It was great!

We have had a pretty stressful summer, but we are settled just in time for the new school year.  Preston starts First Grade on Monday and Addi will be going downstairs with the Big 3 Year Old’s at her preschool this year.

I am so blessed to be able to have my kids home with me for the summer.  I truly love what I do and the flexibility it gives to allow me to work from home or actually where ever I am.  I am hoping that in the year to come, I can hire a part time assistant to help me as my business grows.

I am going to trust God and what he has in store for me- however hard it may be- I know it will be worth it.

XOXO

Lindsey

Movin on up

I must say- I now have EMPATHY not just SYMPATHY for my Sellers!  We put our house on the market last week and it has been shown 17 times- in 8 days!  WOW!  I would normally not suggest to my Sellers to market their homes in the Summer-due to busy schedules, heat and vacations, but sometimes things just happen and you have to.
We were not intending to make a move for another year or two, but we have an opportunity to move up and still be in Roberts school zone-  and at a GREAT Interest Rate. I mean kinda hard to pass on.
Surprisingly and unexpectedly we were told THE house, that I have loved for a couple of years, is going to be available-   As a Realtor I see so many homes everyday , and no others have  wanted to make me endure what I am about to explain…

We decided we would put ours up for Sale- listed by yours truly.  We worked non stop for 2 weeks getting it ready… I only thought that was the hard part.  Nope!  I wasn’t thinking about the 2 Messy Kids (home for summer), 2 Dogs and 2 Cats and 2 adults  that actually still live here! Yes, we sleep, shower, cook (well eat takeout) and all the other things you do while living in a house- that has to be Perfect pretty much at all times, b/c you never know when the moment might strike that a potential Buyer may want to see it.
and you NEVER turn away a SHOWING! EVER…

Things were going great the First day- we had 4 showings – even one group came twice!  I was so excited. I just knew we were going to get an offer.  once again, WRONG.  8 days later and still NO offer.  You know what that means- YEP. I have been Constantly Cleaning.  Which is Something that I do not like to do with my OH SO precious few minutes of daily alone time.

So if you know of anyone that might be interested in our home… LET ME KNOW.

Wing It

To say or do something without preparation or forethought ; improvise

That is usually when I find the best items-  When I wing it!

And that is how I snagged this awesome vintage Wing Chair today …No pun intended… among a few other great steals at a Local Estate Sale today.  I just stuck it in the corner of our Living room, for now, and it actually looks fine with the fabric it’s in.  I plan on using it in the Master Bedroom some day probably with a different fabric and finish, but who knows. I may end up selling it in my booth at Midtowne Antique Mall.

Here are a few others that I like

These Vintage Blue Velvet Chairs are classic and would blend perfectly with today’s more clean line style.

Lovin this Graphic Print Chair from Horchow.  Don’t think the $2850 price tag would work in my budget!
The reclined Leather chair is perfect in this Eclectic Room
