All that Jazz

March 8, 2012 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

As a part of the HOST COMMITTEE,
I am getting geared up for the Studio Party at the Arkansas Arts Center
SATURDAY MARCH 31st at 8PM
in the ALICE PRATT BROWN ATRIUM.
It will undoubtedly host the most fashionably clad crowd of the season.

Inspired by Max Beckmann’s 1921 drawing, Jazzkapelle, well heeled Studio Party goers will know to don their prettiest, glittery dancing shoes for an evening of modern cabaret.

Here’s your chance to step back in time and really show off your fashion sense. What will you wear?

Something like the Chanel Silhouette debuting in 1920? I love this one!

An evening gown like out of The Great Gatsby?

What about a Vintage Flapper?

Take your pick

I’ll have on my Chanel No. 5
The iconic Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle was First introduced in 1921.

Maybe a little “Boardwalk Empire” style for the guys

Or….Okay, this may be a little much!

This look is not bad…at All

Come on out and support the Arts Center and have some fun while your at it!

Dance to Atlanta, Ga. show band Liquid Pleasure, sip sloe gin fizzes and classic champagne cocktails, sample Roaring ’20s-style tasty treats and enjoy the antics of a cabaret-clad wait staff.

When you Purchase Tickets, please be sure to enter Lindsey or Danny Binz as your volunteer ticket solicitor!
See you all there

You can have Whatever you Like!!!

In Design, “There is more than one way to skin a cat!” in other words it’s okay to have differing opinions about your design and even change your mind. There is NO Absolute solution. So, this means, I may even change my mind mid~project. Don’t have it set in stone or you may miss an opportunity! I have come to the conclusion that this is how Creativity happens.
It’s also wonderful, because you can re~arrange and update as often as you Like without spending more money!!!
That’s not to say every way looks good.

Here are some “No Rules” ways to decorate your space, that do look good…in my opinion!

Notice the Non Matching sofa Pillows!

Yep, that’s a baby crib behind the sofa. I believe a house is where you live…Beautifully

Very Different!

A fun Little space I designed recently! Thanks Sean and Jamie for giving me Freedom!

Now go and break some rules…Oh Wait, there are No rules! Ha

In the pink

I love this pink room I found on Decorpad. The crisp white trim and windows keeps it light and airy

I love the idea of a pink bathroom- this one is very unique with the Lilly writing painted on the walls

The red velvet tufted sofa looks so LOVELY 😉 against the pink walls! Valentines Day, Everyday!

I love this eclectic home- stuffed animals included

Wow. Love-Love-Love this bathroom

And of course, Addi’s Room is Pink! This pic was when she still had a crib- her room looks much different now.

Enter at your own Risk!

Since I seem to be obsessed with storage, I can’t stop dreaming about having a neat, clutter free house. Though, I realize that(at this point in my ever so busy life), it is near impossible. For some reason- I like to live in denial and think that it will actually happen! My next project is to turn my foyer closet into a really cool/unique- Entry space that will be functional for a family of 4. My hope is, too ,that it will be a good start at keeping us on time when flying out the door at 7:20 a.m for school or in the evening when hurriedly headed to practice of some sort.

Here is the (kind of weird) closet that is immediately inside our Front door. Before the transformation- that will hopefully being taking place VERY SOON!!!!

Below are some images for my inspiration- and hopefully ideas for your future projects – either DIY or with MY Help!!!! 🙂

I must say, this is very pretty. I would love to use some reclaimed wood pieces in my design.

As you know- if you are a regular to my blog or fan on my fb page- I love me some Pottery Barn and Stripes! CLASSIC and not too busy.

I love everything about this- but- I think a bench would be more practical- I may change my mind though.

I love the idea of a leaning mirror- it gives the feel of a bigger space. I am also thinking an upholstered Settee- might just be what I need in that space. It will need to be large enough though for baskets underneath!

Another idea- is a project inside a project. I could re- purpose something and make a fabric bench.

What are your ideas?

Firmness of purpose

January 15, 2012 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

A resolve or determination: to make a firm resolution to do something.

As I have been pondering my New Years Resolutions this past week, I realized that I have been trying to resolve too many things. There are really only a few things that I need to continue resolving.

1. Be true to myself

2. Take time to learn

3. Enjoy the here and now

I know these seem simple, but as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, niece, cousin, business woman, room mom, volunteer, tennis player, etc. I tend to get a little spread out and overwhelmed.

Sometimes it is easy to conform to the world and take others leads. I am determined to stay true to my values and continue to do what is important to me personally and in business. When I decided to open Lindsey Binz Home Company, I had many people ask me why? “It is so much easier to work for someone else”, they would say. Yes, probably. But me easy, no. I am grateful for the experience that I have received from many wonderful people over the past decade. It has gotten me where I am today. That leads me on to the next step- taking time to learn. I do not think “I know it all” , (though my close friends and family might disagree! ) I am very open to learning and have many things that I still would like to achieve. It is very hard for me to not always be thinking ahead to what I might do next. I sometimes even miss out on the great things happening now. This year, I want to take it all in and make my grass green.

Okay so I will break it down for ya- which really adds some complexity to the resolutions!

I love having my own business- it allows me the freedom to be as unconventional as I choose to be. In the past, I have been tempted to meet others’ standards and do things the way it’s “supposed” to be done. I have recently come to the realization that there are no rules and that I can enjoy what I do~ Every single minute of my life! My goal is to give my clients the best service I can and still have time to devote to my personal life. It is a constant balancing act, that is very rewarding to say the least.

There are so many things that I want to learn to do, but rarely take the time to do them. I plan to devote a little time into broadening my education when it comes to things I enjoy (or think I might enjoy). I am hoping to remember to savor each moment because this too shall pass- whether I want it to or not.

I am going to get some use out of my camera and photoshop program this year.

I love all different types of fabric and really want to learn to sew. Not that I have the space for a sewing room, but oh how fun it could be. Maybe even get some friends to take a class with- for an added bonus!

I plan to get healthy this year and the first step is eating FRESH. Fruits and veggies are going to be a staple in our house this year. I won’t aspire to cooking grand meals just yet, but having a variety of fresh snacks on hand will hopefully keep me away from the cookies (most of the time anyway)!

Along with eating the fruits and veggies, I plan to be at the gym MUCH more this year!

Let’s Start Anew

I might starting using my iPad, if I had this case!

I love this blanket!!!

Who doesn’t need a pair of Chanel Shades?????

For all of my Traveling! Well, maybe someday!

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

November 26, 2011 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

So, I am not a “Theme Person” when it comes to decorating or anything for that matter… However, lately the only Theme that comes to mind is… Christmas. I am not sure if it’s because I have worked the last two weeks decorating homes for Christmas or If I am just ready for some down time at the house! Could be that I love to shop, and “Tis the Season”. As I sit at the computer on this lazy weekend after Thanksgiving, I am excited about all of the Christmas I can see. Whether it be ordering our family Christmas cards, getting tips on Holiday Baking, peeking at all of the prettiness people display throughout the season or just getting inspiration for my upcoming projects I want to design for myself and other people.

This is what I picture my home at Christmas to be like, if I would have lived in the 60’s.
*Note the little dollhouse for Addi, next to the sofa*

The Vintage inspired Christmases seem to make me smile!

The best kind of “Blue Christmas”
*the Champagne is a nice touch!*

This door is super cute! I may have to steal this look with the snowflakes! Love!!!

I am doing one of these trees for my kids.

These Cookies must have taken hours to make, but sure look delicious!

My kitchen table after “Trying” to make this Martha Stewart frost village with kids. I just let em go at it, and the control freak in me was going crazy!!!!

This would be the perfect ~ Simple~ gift!

Would so love my dream home to have this exact Foyer… I like the Garland too!

More Tradition

One of the doors I did last week.

After all the cooking, decorating and shopping, Let us not forget the true meaning of Christmas!

Countdown to Christmas

November 9, 2011 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

We have our’s do you? A fun tradition to get us all ready for Christmas is an Advent Calendar. As early as 1851, advent calendars were used to make this countdown even more exciting. Originally, they were based on 24 days with Christmas Eve as the last night to either put up a picture or take a candy. Today, the traditional German calendars still show 24 days, but in the United States, it’s not uncommon to also find ones with 25 days — the last opening to occur on Christmas Day. Here are a few of my favorites!

This simple, handmade Felt calendar works in almost any style home…www.purlbee.com

This one from www.thelandofnod.com would be perfect in a kids play room

This one made from toilet paper rolls, can be a project that you and the kids can make together. www.mayamade.blogspot.com

Here are some more from Pottery Barn and Garnet Hill, two of my favorites stores!

This one from Pottery Barn kids, is the one we have…Perfect for kids of all ages!

What are some of your family’s favorite Christmas Traditions? Send me some pics and they may just make it on my next blog post!!!!

What would you do????

November 6, 2011 by Lindsey Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

Question!!!!! What would you do if you had 48 HOURS all to yourself??? Pretty much ANYTHING (within certain limitations)?

WELL……………… I got it! Thanks D.B. and our wonderful friends, the Wallace’s.

Here’s what I did- It’s not what you are thinking, And it’s definitely not what I would have pictured myself to be doing either!!!

I ORGANIZED!!!!! Yes, I am Bragging.

I have been working away- room by room grouping toys and kids items into categories and like containers. WHEW, I am exhausted, yet exhilarated.

Why you ask? Because I have been completely overwhelmed with the clutter and chaos of the (excuse my french) Shit~ery that takes up prime real estate in our Home!

I could go on and on about that, but I won’t! I am sure many other mom’s out there can relate, right!

After the labor I endured, I got to do one of my all time , favorite activities…SHOP! This was probably the 1st indicator, back in 1999 when I chose my college Major, that Interior Design would be a perfect fit for me. Not only would I get to shop for people, I would get paid while doing it. Not so bad, Eh?

So I made my list (in my head of course) cause writing it down is what politically correct organizers do. I would go to Sam’s and purchase the industrial bin cart that I have been eyeing for 3 months now for Preston’s room. Little did I know that going to Sam’s would also provide some comic relief. You know what I mean if you have ever ventured into Sam’s Wholesale on a Saturday Evening at 6ish p.m. People actually shop and eat dinner (as a family) in Sam’s. What???

Before that, I was going to return some previously purchased client items at two stores in the area, but then realized I didn’t have my receipts. Those items would now have to be moved around, so the new bin would fit in the back of the Denali.

After that little show, I went over to Pottery Barn to return a lamp. While getting the lamp out, I realized the drapery rods that I bought to hang for a client were the wrong size. Now I am working- so I start thinking of other client projects. STAY FOCUSED!!! Okay, so I also got the 3 tiered basket for the kids bathroom- that I had next to my items the day I purchased the lamp and wrong rods, but forgot to pay for or take home that day.

After getting all loaded up again, I drove across the lot to the Container Store. This is a DANGER ZONE for someone like me. I walked in and my adrenaline started pumping- when this happens my vision gets blurry (just kidding). I needed some containers for my newly organized spaces. I knew what I wanted, striped burlap bins for the Armiore ,that I moved Friday night from P’s room to the playroom. Yes, by myself after taking the VERY Heavy (not flat panel) TV and other electronics out. Of course, however, they only had 3 and I needed 4, so I chose the dark gray ones. A better choice anyway since the white stripes would be dirty after a few days in my kids’ playroom! I also bought another vintage inspired wire basket to match the one housing P’s Wii games in the re~purposed computer cabinet that is now his entertainment center! Yes, moved that Friday night too!

While I was in the “Zone”, some friends called and invited me over for eats/drinks. Since , I knew I needed to take a break from all the neatness that was going on inside my “Busy Brain” (Danny actually coined that term for me), I said I’d be there soon. I ran home to drop off the new purchases and to check on Whitney’s precious puppy, Olive, that I have been keeping this weekend. After a few hours of Girl time, I went home, ready to get that new cart in and assembled. An hour later, finished!

Next time I get the house to myself for 2 1/2 days I may tackle my closet!!!

Here are the items I purchased

I like to use creative storage ideas when organizing~ the multi~sized removable angled bins are perfect for legos, cars, crayons, markers, puzzle pieces, play-do, art supplies, dress up clothes, toy weapons, dolls, etc…

The tiered basket for kids bathroom counter- to hold soap, towels, toys, and I am sure lot’s of other extra things like Happy Meal toys no one actually ever uses in a bathroom- or anywhere for that matter.

Got 4 of these babies to hold more TOYS! These could also be used for transport of said toys when leaving Mommy home to organize for a weekend!

These super cool wire baskets look old, but aren’t!

I also grabbed this little tray to hold the iPhones while charging! $5 bucks well spent!

Here’s what I missed! Sweet Babies in God’s Beautiful Country
