You don’t have to put everything away to make room for your holiday decorations.

Make it look more natural and effortless 

by integrating floral and greenery in with your mantle or bookshelves.

 to this arrangement my client already had displayed.

Use fresh when you can

I realize that is not always an option, but if it is then why not take advantage of nature.

I love the simplicity of using clippings from trees as decor. 

It’s not only economical, it adds the amazing aroma of pine to your home.
Plus less to put away when it’s time to take everything down.

Just add them to your every day vases or bowls with or without ornaments and garland.

Use Rosemary to make a simple wreath.
Hang it in your kitchen and use the sprigs when cooking or just enjoy the smell.
It’s also a great hostess gift!

Be proactive for next year and

When storing your decor find a designated place, then color code or label the containers.

I have tons of holiday decorations and I don’t use them all every year. 

I keep all of mine in an area in the attic separate from the rest of our stuff.

That way I can quickly scan what I want to get down each year 

and what I want to wait and use another season.

Real Simple

Make a number pumpkin.

Start with a white pumpkin. Drill pilot holes in the pumpkin to make attaching the numbers easier.  Use your address number, and place it near your front door to greet guests. Or, add your favorite digits and use it inside.

 Try layering up your foyer table with cute fabric pumpkins.

Over the past weekend I took a trip to the Big Apple!

As you can imagine, I was very inspired by all the design and Architecture in the City!

Regardless if you are moving or staying put, a few changes can help your home feel more inviting!

Let’s focus on a few areas that are somewhat easily and quickly attainable.

 Lighting, Textiles and Art can be done on any (reasonable) budget

and in most cases will add value to your home.

 Changing out or adding a few fixtures is very easy and can change the feel of a room.

The foyer is the first thing people see when they are welcomed into your home, 

why not make it spectacular! 

Sconces next to your bed add style and function!

Many are available not hardwired, so all you have to do is hang it up and plug it in to the outlet! 

Pillows, Bedding and Window Treatments 

are a great way to add pattern and color to your space that is in no way permanent! 

Window Treatments don’t have to break the bank. 

These fabric roman shades from ETSY add so much to this dining area for under $100 each! 

Art can completely make an otherwise plain room come to life.

Original art is my absolute favorite. 

Yes, it can be pricey, but there are many artists that have great deals. 

Especially locals that want to get their art in homes.

If you are going to splurge on one thing, do it with art.

The best thing about it is you can take it anywhere.

I have decided to start a new blog series called

 “Free up some space Friday”

Like the other series’ I have, it may be very inconsistent and this might actually be the only one I ever do.

 So it may not really end up being a series after all.

But I hope it is…cause my computer is FULL of stuff- mostly images that I save for future reference.

As a designer, it’s one of my jobs to be looking ahead to the upcoming trends.
Though I don’t focus too heavy on trends, I do feel every space should be a little fashion forward!

The 2015 Forecast has a lot of color to choose from.

Most of these are a continuation of the colors that we have been seeing in design over the past few years!
So no need to worry…
That Radiant Orchid sofa you just ordered to go in your Emerald Green living room
will be just fine… for awhile!

And always keep in mind…even if not “on Trend”
It’s okay to be yourself in your home design and otherwise!!!

When designing your spaces,
it’s easy to see all the new home fashions and think how good they look
and how you want to redo your entire home with all the new looks.
But there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it.
I think it’s okay to follow trend, if you mix it the right way…

and as always, mistakes happen in home design (and life)

As we are getting ready for one of the last lake weekends this summer, I am daydreaming about our future 2nd home and different features that we may need to put on the possibility list.

I am pretty sure that we won’t be allowed to build quite this close to the water, 

 But Lake Access is a MUST for us.

Choosing the right white can be challenging to say the least. 

It seems like it would be pretty easy to just flip through the paint deck and pick one, Right???

 It can be, but that’s only after years of experience and making lots of mistakes with the not so right whites.

Many whites have colored undertones that can clash with other colors,

 so you need to be thoughtful when making your decision(s)

Whites look great in both high and low contrast settings.

It’s a great back drop for a space and works for any and all design styles.
